Nr. 393 CUM

Comtoise clock with anchor escapement and moon phase from around 1870/80. Simple gridiron pendulum with brown glass lens. Embossed decorative plate with volutes and floral motifs, plus 4 corner motifs and a bead around the top section. Half-hour and full-hour strike on bell with repetition of the full-hour strike. Moon phase display, shown through 4 moon symbols in a small round window above the number VI, and a moon phase progression displayed by a hand on a subsidiary dial from 2 to 30. The wheel train (72 teeth) moves the star wheel with 30 teeth forward by one tooth once a day. The star wheel itself moves the moon phase disc forward by one setting every 7 ½ days, so that one of the four painted moon symbols appears. The moon symbols are 1. Waxing Moon, 2. Full Moon, 3. Waning Moon, and 4. New Moon, each visible for approximately ¼ of the lunar cycle. See also clocks No. 58 CUM and No. 64 CUM.
