11-inch Comtoise clock with anchor escapement and gridiron pendulum from the year 1884. Embossed, narrow brass bezel. Half-hour and full-hour striking on a bell with repetition of the hour strike. Enamel dial composed of 13 parts (13 pièces). The central cartouche displays the date (1–31), 7 weekdays (Monday–Sunday), and the signature: HEMMEL Hger de la Ville LYON. The gridiron pendulum is also inscribed: 1ère qté 1884 Gar tie (Première qualité Garantie – guaranteed first quality). Brass hour and minute hands in Breguet style; iron date hand.
The aforementioned city clockmaker Hemmel repaired in 1896 the tower clock of the church St. Nizier in Lyon, built by the Mayets in Morbier in the year ?1684 (or 1674?). See also the very similar clock by Souchon, 1869, Nr. 353 CUM.
