Nr. 338 CUM

11-inch Comtoise clock with anchor escapement and pressed pendulum from around 1880. Brass-embossed oval decorative plate depicting Chronos and Parca spinning the thread of life, while Chronos points with his finger at the clock working below him. The other two Parcae form the lower edge of the decorative plate.
The lower part of the pendulum shows portraits of Léon Gambetta and Jules Grévy, two influential politicians of the Third French Republic. The upper part of the pendulum is adorned with the head of 'Marianne,' the letters 'RF' (République Française), and the five-pointed star of the Legion of Honour.
This clock is a tribute to Gambetta and Grévy, topped by the allegory of the transience of life (Chronos and Parca).
Half-hour and full-hour strike on a bell with repetition. Enamel dial signed: Cyrille CAIRE à l’Isle en Jourdain.
