Black Forest 8-day weight-driven movement with enamel dial including polychrome floral painting and decorative plate made in France, dating from around 1855/60. Depiction of Joseph as a carpenter with Mary and Jesus, marked: DEPOSE Brevete Sans Gtie Du Gouvernement. Wooden spindle movement, sheet-metal anchor, half-hour and full-hour strike on bell (lock plate). Black Forest clockmakers imitated the clocks of their French competitors (see Nos. 222 CUM, 223 CUM, or 224 CUM) with stucco Comtoise motifs or directly purchased parts made in France to undercut prices.
