9-inch Comtoise clock with verge escapement and folded pendulum, dating from around 1855/1860. Full-hour strike on a bell with repetition after 2 minutes, alarm mechanism, single-piece pressed decorative plate featuring a sun face with a large radiant crown framed by sheaves of wheat and rose branches. The two lower corners each feature beehives. Enamel dial signed: Bainier Lod à Montbéliard. All Roman numerals and the minute track are rendered in cobalt blue (cobalt oxide), while the signature is in 'black' (manganese oxide). 'Blue' numerals are very rare on 19th-century Comtoise clocks.
