11-inch Comtoise monthly clock with verge escapement and folded pendulum, dating from around 1830/1835. Two-piece decorative brass front, embossed, with two dragons and a large palmette above a vase with flowers. Hour strike on bell with repetition of the full hour strike after 2 minutes and separate half-hour strike en passant. Date display. Normally, the date star with its 31 teeth is held in position by a roller holder. An extremely rare construction is installed in this clock, in which a lever with a roller holds the 31-tooth date star wheel in position by spring pressure, similar to the spring pressure used to release the large lever system. Typical contemporary sun hands. Enamel dial signed: Villard à Pont en Royant.
