9-inch Comtoise clock movement from around 1840/45. Alarm mechanism. Anchor escapement with a small curved anchor spanning 6.5 teeth, pendulum suspended by a thread, as is common in verge clocks. Striking mechanism triggered by weight, large lever system in a typical triangular design, found only during this period from the late 1830s to the early 1850s. Half-hour and full-hour striking on a bell with repetition. Two-part brass decorative plate featuring a Napoleon I motif, framed by laurel, flanked by flags and two eagles. Each of the four corners of the dial features a cannonball with flame plumes. Chased star-shaped hands.
