No. 114 CUM

10-inch Comtoise clock with automaton - pressed pendulum, anchor escapement, half-hour and full-hour strike on a bell with repetition, from the period 1890/1900. The pendulum and decorative plate still bear remnants of the original painting. However, as the decorative plate had become somewhat unsightly over time, it was not cleaned but refreshed with gold bronze. It is common to find old Comtoise clocks that have been restored in this way. This model, which you can find in Armand Morel's catalog (Appendix I), is called Fermière (Farmer's Wife). The apple thief (in the small window) and the head of the farmer's wife move in rhythm with the pendulum.
