9-inch Comtoise clock with anchor escapement and lyre pendulum or folded pendulum from around 1870/1880, one-piece embossed decorative plate depicting a large amphora framed by grape leaves and clusters.
Marked in the lower right decorative corner with DEPOSE. Half- and full-hour strike on bell with repetition of the hour strike. Alarm mechanism. Contemporary brass hands. Enamel dial signed: Francesco BARONE OROLOGERIERE Saluzzo. The town of Saluzzo is located in northern Italy, south of Turin, in the province of Cuneo in the southwest of the Piedmont region. Like in all European neighboring countries, Comtoise clocks were also sold in Italy, but such examples are found only sporadically.
