Nr. 355 CUM

9-inch Comtoise clock with a anchor escapement in an arched design and folded pendulum from around 1845. Half-hour and hour striking on a bell with repetition, an early version of a weight-driven release mechanism where the lever weights of the striking train are made of lead instead of the usual brass. Two-part embossed decorative plate depicting a romantic scene (couple with a dove) in the Louis XV style (shell and rocaille), bordered by a ridge and separated from the four equally embossed dial corners. See also the illustration of clock Nr. 356 CUM, which features the same, but single-part embossed decorative plate. The embossing tools for the upper parts of the two clocks are not identical, as the two models differ in recognizable nuances. Enamel dial signed: Cauvin père et fils à Marseille, star-shaped hands with decorated surfaces.
