8-day Comtoise clock with verge escapement and folded pendulum from around 1840/45, in an 11-inch cage. Two-part embossed decorative plate with sun head motif, cornucopias, and acanthus. Lower extension of the decorative plate adapted for an 11-inch cage. Half-hour and full-hour striking on a gong, mounted externally on the back of the case, with hour strike repetition. Strike release by spring pressure. Clocks with striking mechanisms using gongs from before 1850 are very rare. Star-shaped hands with engraved surfaces. Enamel dial.
