Nr. 189 CUM

9-inch Comtoise clock with verge escapement and folded pendulum from 1844. Strike on a wire gong, which at that time was mounted outside the movement on the back. Two-part decorative plate made of embossed brass with a bead edge. The upper part features a palm leaf growing from a flower basket, flanked on both sides by oak leaves, beneath which two cornucopias are positioned. Star-shaped hands, spring-loaded striking mechanism trigger. At this time, in the rare clocks with gong strike, the wire gong was always mounted outside on the rear panel (see detail photo). It was only from about 1855/60 that the gong began to be mounted inside on the wooden rear panel. (See also Fig. No. 179 CUM)
