Nr. 219 CUM

Large floor clock made of cherry wood with a 10-inch Comtoise movement from around 1840/45. Verge escapement and folded pendulum, half-hour passing strike, and full-hour strike on a bell with repetition. Embossed two-part decorative plate with a sun face and cornucopia motif.

For clocks from before 1850, a date display is always a special feature and quite rare.
Only after 1850 did a date display become standard on clocks, but it remained uncommon among the total number of clocks produced, despite the additional cost for the date function being only about 1 franc on a total price of approximately 15-20 francs. See Appendix I, page 15, Jules Jacquemin Catalogue, Price List No. 7 from 1890, and page 75, A. Fontanez Catalogue, Price List No. 6 from around 1895.
