No. 323 CUM
8-inch Comtoise clock in a wall-mounted case, pearwood with an arched inlay band.
Movement with anchor escapement (curved anchor spanning 6 ½ teeth of the anchor wheel) and folded pendulum from around 1830/35. Full-hour strike on a bell with repetition after 2 minutes, half-hour strike en passant. Two-part pressed decorative plate featuring a sun face and ribbon bow above a cup filled with flowers and fruits, flanked by cornucopias, palm leaves, and acanthus. Each of the four corners of the dial features 8-petaled flowers. Enamel dial signed: Silvestre à Ranconnières.
The movement cage, with a height and width of 220mm and a depth of 129mm, is smaller than standard Comtoise cages, causing the normal 9-inch decorative plate with dial to overhang the sides of the cage. With a total movement depth of 'only' 150mm, it fits perfectly into the case. Standard 9-inch Comtoise movements, with depths ranging from 160mm to 170mm, do not fit in this wooden case.
