Haut Jura Comtoise cartouche clock, circa 1730, verge escapement. Half hour strike en passant, full hour strike on bell without repeater, forged three-pointed iron hands, cast brass frame with inlaid enamel cartouches. Medallion with the head of Louis XIV (see detailed photo). Royal crown above a globe as a symbol of the absolutist claim to power ( see detailed photo ).
Cartouches with numerous blemishes. Numbers enameled with metal oxide paints: Blue ( cobalt ) and brown/black ( manganese ) ( see detailed photo ). This dial with complete minute scale was imported from Paris.
