No. 84 CUM

10-inch Comtoise clock with quarter-hour strike on 3 bells and hourly strike with repetition, known as Petite Sonnerie, from around 1860/70.
Verge escapement and folded pendulum. Embossed decorative plate with a familial motif: "Visit to the sick grandmother."
Dial signed: Berthoud à Paris. This signature could refer to Auguste-Louis Berthoud (1828–1910), the nephew of Charles-Auguste Berthoud and thus a descendant of the famous clockmaker Ferdinand Berthoud of the 18th century. Like many other watchmakers and merchants, this 19th-century Berthoud likely sold Comtoise clocks under his name. In general, signatures from Paris are very rarely found on Comtoise clocks.
