No. 18 CUM
Comtoise cock clock from the Louis XV period around 1760/1770, central second hand, half hour strike en passant, full hour strike on bell without repeater, flat plate-like enamel dial, brass stripes on the sides.
Very unusual escapement: pin escapement in a modified version according to Lepaute. In the normal pin escapement, which was invented by Amant around 1740, the escapement pins are located on one side of the escapement wheel, whereas in this modified version the pins are located on both sides and are also of different lengths. Asymmetrically arranged winding arbors. The winding arbor of the movement sits in the dial, whereas that of the striking mechanism can be seen under the dial. Apparently, the clock once had sliding winding hole covers, which of course only made sense for the striking mechanism shaft. The two corresponding holes can still be seen in the black support plate.
An extremely early Comtoise clock with center seconds display. Probably the oldest example known to date.
